Increased chance of rain on Thursday and Friday

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – The First Alert forecast for Thursday and Friday calls for some much-needed rain. That’s thanks to a low pressure system moving along the Gulf Coast through the end of the week. Today will see scattered rain, with precipitation increasing through Friday. As the rain moves slowly and brings tropical moisture to Alabama, it could dump heavy amounts of rain in a short period of time and cause localized flooding.

Outdoor winds today will be about 10 to 15 mph from the east, with gusts at times. Showers will be scattered today, with highs in the low 80s. A few showers are possible tonight, with lows in the low 60s and 70s, and a light breeze.

Rain is likely to increase across the region on Friday. The slow movement of the system may again create some isolated problem areas with flash flooding, we will be monitoring it closely. Highs on Friday will barely rise above 21 degrees due to the clouds and rain, as well as gusty northeast winds. Lows will be around 18 degrees, with persistent rain showers through Saturday morning.

Check out the latest live and local weather data below, streamed on WSFA Weather Now! Please note that this stream does not contain live severe weather coverage, only data on the latest weather conditions.

The system will retreat by the weekend and a strengthening cold front will move through by Sunday, clearing clouds and reducing the chance of rain.

Expect mostly partly to mostly clear conditions on Saturday afternoon and during the day on Sunday. Highs will remain at 27°C, with light winds at times. Lows will also be cool and comfortable at 15°C.

At least until next Monday, predominantly dry weather and lower humidity are expected, while long-term forecast models indicate that from the middle or end of next week there will be a low probability of rain and higher humidity.

As for temperatures, there are no signs of extreme heat for the next ten days! Hopefully we can avoid the heat long enough for fall to officially begin. The official first day of fall is September 22nd.
