The two Central German representatives will face each other right at the start of the second handball Bundesliga. And for new Dresden player Timo Löser, it will be a reunion with his former club, where he played for five years.

The second handball Bundesliga starts with an atmospheric eastern duel. On Saturday, Dessau-Roßlauer HV welcomes HC Elbflorenz. SPORT IM OSTEN shows the party live on TV and via stream.

Dresden’s new signing Löser back in Dessau

Even before this season, Dresden are repeatedly mentioned as favorites for promotion. However, coach André Haber rejects this, citing the continuity required for this. “For me, a top team is characterized by the fact that it manages to get into the top teams in more than just one year. We are working on that.” There are three new external signings at HC Elbflorenz. Particularly piquant with regard to the opening opponent is the person of Timo Löser, who played in Dessau for a total of five years until the summer. The second best goalscorer in the 2nd Bundesliga decided to move using an anchored clause in his contract, which runs until 2025. And now he is on the court in Dessau wearing the Dresden jersey. “I’m happy to be back. It’s obviously a special game for me,” explained Löser on the HCE homepage. He assumes that it could be heated.

DRHV with a rejuvenated team

After last season, the hosts from Dessau had to let important players go, including Löser, Jakub Hürstka, Patrick Gempp and Daniel Schmidt. The average age of the team is decreasing. The most exciting new addition is the Polish national player Jakub Powarzynski. The most important man at DRHV is and remains the head coach, Uwe Jungandreas, who is leaving in his 35th season. With regard to the painful departures, he explained: “It will be important to distribute the responsibility across several shoulders and to be even more compact as a team.” The 62-year-old would like to see a full Anhalt-Arena for the duel with Dresden. Dessau-Roßlau’s goal for the season is at least tenth place, which would be enough for the next participation in the DHB Cup.
