New WhatsApp feature: Think twice about flipping this switch

WHATSAPP

The messenger WhatsApp is constantly working on features that are intended to improve your user experience – most of them end up on your smartphones in the form of new buttons and switches.

In the WhatsApp beta 2.24.19.12 for Android, the fan blog WABetaInfo has now discovered a new switch in the settings for new contacts. This switch for “WhatsApp contacts” can be turned on and off.

WhatsApp Contacts switch: Quickly add and delete contacts

If you activate the feature using the switch, your contacts will be saved as a backup in WhatsApp. If you change your phone or reinstall WhatsApp, you can quickly and, above all, automatically access your contacts again without having to re-enter them.

You can just as easily reverse your settings at any time and delete the contacts saved on WhatsApp. If you deactivate the switch again after activating it, a pop-up window will open informing you that all contacts saved for the WhatsApp account will be deleted.

The switch to the feature "WhatsApp contacts" can quickly link your contacts to your account - or delete them.

You have to consider this

After deactivating the “WhatsApp Contacts” feature using the switch, you will no longer be able to edit your contacts from other devices such as laptops or PCs. In addition, they will no longer be automatically loaded onto your new devices if you change devices or reinstall the app.

To explain: This switch is related to other new features that allow you to manage contacts from two WhatsApp accounts on one device without them mixing.

It is probably used to set up backups for an account’s contacts or to disconnect other devices to prevent unauthorized access, such as if a linked laptop is stolen.

WABetaInfo writes that this switch – as well as the other features for account-separated contact management – will appear in an upcoming update on your Android smartphones. The feature is currently still in development.
