Sidhartha Babu and Mona Agarwal are eliminated from the mixed SH1 qualification in the 50 m rifle prone

Paris [France]September 5 (ANI): In the mixed 50m rifle prone Para Shooting SH1 qualification, India’s Sidhartha Babu and Mona Agarwal failed to qualify for the next round of the Paris Paralympics.

Sidhartha finished 22nd with a total of 615.8 points, while Mona finished 30th with 610.5 points.

Earlier on Wednesday, Harvinder secured a historic gold medal for his country at the current premier event, becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the sport at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In the individual fight for the gold medal in recurve paraarchery against Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek, Harvinder won 6-0.

In addition, he secured a medal at two consecutive Paralympics after winning a bronze medal in recurve paraarchery at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Harvinder’s success was India’s second medal in archery at the ongoing Paralympics in Paris. Indian archery pair Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi bagged the bronze medal in the mixed team compound event.

Pooja, on the other hand, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Individual Recurve Open at the ongoing 2024 Paralympics in Paris in her fight against China’s Wu Chunyan. She lost the quarterfinal duel on Tuesday 4:6 against her Chinese opponent.

Para-athlete Sachin Khilari bagged the silver medal in the final of the Men’s Shot Put F46 at the ongoing Paralympics in Paris. Sachin secured the second place with a throw of 16.32 metres, which is also the best throw in the region (AB). However, the Indian athlete was unlucky and missed out on the first place as he was 0.6 metres short.

On Monday and Tuesday, the Indian team won 13 medals for the country, taking its medal tally to a record 20, including three gold, seven silver and ten bronze.

The Indian team has now added 24 medals (five gold, nine silver and ten bronze) to its growing tally and now has a chance to extend its record medal haul at a single edition of the Paralympics. India is ranked 15th in the medal count and has a chance to add many more in the remaining days.

At the Tokyo edition (24 August – 5 September 2021), India recorded its highest medal haul ever with a total of 19 medals, including five gold, eight silver and six bronze. (ANI)
