The man shot by police in Munich near the Israeli consulate is dead. The man’s identity has yet to be established.

The man who was walking around in Munich with a large firearm near the Israeli General Consulate and was shot by the police is dead. This was announced by Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) in Burghausen. The man’s identity has not yet been established. Herrmann did not initially provide any information about a possible motive. Police officers shot a suspect near the consulate and the Nazi Documentation Center in Munich in the morning. There were no other suspects. The police are deployed in the area with numerous officers and a helicopter.

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) considers the shooting in Munich to be a serious incident. “It is a serious incident,” said the politician in Berlin. But they do not want to speculate, they just have to wait and see. “I would like to thank the Munich police, who are doing a good job in my opinion,” said Faeser. “The protection of Jewish and social institutions, as you know, is the highest priority.” Herrmann referred to the fact that the shots were fired on the anniversary of the 1972 Olympic participant. At that time, Palestinian hostage takers murdered members of the Jewish Olympic team.
