What’s behind show interruption in Detroit? – Rolling Stone

And suddenly they were gone: During a concert in Detroit, Green Day were escorted off the stage. Was that when the war started?

Band abruptly leaves the stage

When the US punks were playing the song “Longview”, the show was interrupted. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, Tré Cool and their live musicians stopped playing and abruptly left the stage. First bassist Dirnt was pulled out of the spotlight by a team member, then the rest of the band followed. The reason: a potential security risk. Concertgoers in Comerica Park were initially astonished by Green Day. Recordings can be found on the Internet that capture not only the situation but also the confusion of the fans.

Green Day explains security risk

After a five-minute break, the Californian musicians returned to the stage. Frontman Armstrong shouted: “No motherfucker is going to stop us!” A more detailed explanation of the incident followed later on Instagram. There, Green Day wrote: “Detroit! Sorry for the delay during tonight’s show. Stadium security asked us to vacate the stage due to a possible safety issue in the room. The Detroit Police Department quickly resolved the situation, so we were able to continue. Thank you for your understanding.”

World tour in full swing

Green Day is currently on a major “Saviors” tour in honor of their album of the same name, which was released in January. The trio is also celebrating the 20th anniversary of “American Idiot” (2004) and the 30th anniversary of “Dookie” (1994). The band is currently touring in the USA with the Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and the Linda Lindas. The tour has been going on since the end of May, and the stops in Europe are already in the past. The tour will end in Japan in 2025.
