Kolkata rape and murder case: Calls from foreign number to RG Kar officials, doctors under CBI surveillance | Indiablooms

Kolkata/IBNS: The Central Bureau of Investigation has traced the calls received by the officials and doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, where a 31-year-old junior doctor was raped and murdered last month, from a foreign number on the morning of August 9, according to media reports.

The crime, which caused shock and widespread protests across the country, was committed on the night of August 8-9.

The CBI has traced the call details of the officers and doctors who were present at the crime scene. The doctor was raped and murdered in the seminar hall.

Although the investigating authority found that the incoming calls came from a number abroad, they have not yet been able to locate the owner of this number.

However, the CBI has learnt that the number is a prepaid SIM card with reloadable credit.

According to reports, the CBI officials have forwarded the number to their higher authorities so that they can contact the external affairs department of the respective country and ascertain the details of the SIM card holder.

According to reports, the officials and doctors who answered the calls are close associates of former college principal Dr Sandip Ghosh, who was arrested by the CBI on Monday in connection with the financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital.

The only arrest in connection with this crime so far has been made by the Kolkata police. They quickly nabbed volunteer Sanjoy Roy. Sanjoy denies committing the murder.

Residents and protesters suspect that multiple perpetrators are behind the crime, and attempts to tamper with evidence and cover up the crime have been underway from the beginning.

Mamata Banerjee’s government is currently in crisis as the people are uproaring and challenging the state administration, which has been marred by political violence and rampant corruption for more than a decade.

The government’s rush to administer the last rites to the victim and the demolition work near the crime scene are raising some uncomfortable questions for the state administration headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is in charge of both the police and health departments.
