National Council election 2024 in Tyrol: SPÖ, the match for first place is on

National Council election 2024 in Tyrol: SPÖ, the match for first place is on

The Tyrolean SPÖ wants to take two seats in the National Council in the future. This is the goal set by Deputy Governor and party chairman Georg Dornauer together with the National Council top candidate Selma Yildirim presents. “Dornauer is loyal and stands by the federal party chairman,” Dornauer explains at a press conference.

INNSBRUCK. “The three-way battle for Austria has begun, the match for first place in the 2024 National Council elections is on!” “For us it is clear: with the tailwind from Tyrol, we can become the strongest force in the National Council in the autumn,” explains LHStv. Georg DornauerSPÖ Chairman, after successful opening events in all Tyrolean constituencies and the visit of Federal Party Chairman Andreas Babler to Innsbruck, the intensive phase of the National Council election campaign began:

“After the successful Innsbruck municipal election in April and the significant gains in the European Parliament elections, we will successfully complete the third major election this year together with a powerful electoral movement around our top candidate, National Councillor Selma Yildirim!”

Diversity of topics

Top candidate NR Selma Yildirim wants to have a clear thematic focus: “Fight inflation, rebuild healthcare and protect our democracy!” Inflation may be falling at the moment, but that does not mean life is getting cheaper for Tyroleans. We demand: no rent increases until 2026, an effective rent cap and an interest rate cap – financed from the banks’ excess profits.“VAT on basic foodstuffs had to be reduced, energy prices had to be regulated and price controls had to be tightened: “For an affordable life for all people in Austria!” When it comes to health, the MP underlines the SPÖ’s demand for a guaranteed (specialist) doctor’s appointment within 14 days. More university places and the avoidance of privatization should boost the health system. For all of this, “after September 29, a strong, defensive democracy is needed. Democracy and security must be built up and protected from attacks, especially from right-wing parties. To do this, we need to strengthen the independent judiciary. That means: more resources, more personal attention,” explains the SPÖ’s justice spokesperson in the National Council. The goals of the regional organization in Tyrol are “clear and simple,” says Dornauer: “Once again, the SPÖ will gain a plus in Tyrol and have two seats in the National Council in the future.”

When asked whether he shared Bures’ criticism of the content, Dornauer replied to the APA: “There could always be one or two points of criticism of an election manifesto, but you always have to see the bigger picture. Ideas and concepts that you support more and those that you support less. That’s how social democracy is solidary.” Dornauer refers to the SPÖ party executive’s decision on the election manifesto with only one vote against. “Obviously the election manifesto is supported – under Babler’s responsibility, I’ll say that,” says Dornauer.
