Apple releases firmware update for Beats Studio Buds+

Apple releases firmware update for Beats Studio Buds+

Apple has made a firmware update available for download for the Beats Studio Buds+ Bluetooth earphones (Amazon affiliate link*) introduced last year. The firmware is updated from version 2A219 to version 2C318 – a significant jump. However, the manufacturer does not provide any information about the new features, improvements and bug fixes that have been made.

The firmware update is automatic. Apple says: “Firmware updates are automatically deployed while the Beats headphones or earphones are charging and within Bluetooth range of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac that is connected to a Wi-Fi network.” The installed firmware version can be found in System Preferences => Bluetooth.

The Beats Studio Buds+ have active noise cancellation (ANC) and are sweat and water resistant according to IPX4. The battery life per charge is up to nine hours, the charging case (with an additional 27 hours of runtime) is charged with a USB-C cable. There is support for 3D audio as well as microphones and transparency mode.

At under 150 euros, the Beats Studio Buds+ are significantly cheaper than the AirPods Pro (Amazon advertising partner link). Compared to the AirPods Pro, the Beats Studio+ lacks the ability to quickly switch devices via iCloud and features such as conversation recognition. Sound tests confirm that the Studio Buds have sub-bass and treble to a greater extent than the AirPods Pro.
