Hot temperatures, good tennis and a fine cocktail in your hand? Sounds like a good day to spend at the US Open in New York. Anyone who has secured a ticket for the last Grand Slam of the year will probably not want to miss out on the hype drink of the year.

The so-called Honey Deuce is sold non-stop in Flushing Meadows. So often that the organizers can cover the prize money for the men and women with the direct income. The winners each pocket three million euros. And the drink alone, which consists of vodka, raspberry liqueur, lemonade and three pieces of honeydew melon that look like tennis balls, brings in a good ten million euros for the tournament. No wonder, one cocktail costs a whopping 24 euros.

But the vodka cocktail is not only popular with tennis fans. Icons of the sport also enjoy the drink. When he attended the quarter-finals between local hero Francis Tiafoe and Grigor Dimitrov, Roger Federer treated himself to a cup of Honey Deuce. Especially for the maestro: his name can be read five times on the cup. Because the cups, which you can keep as a souvenir, feature the old winners.

The Swiss made headlines even before his return to the last major of the year. In a talk show, the 20-time Grand Slam winner spoke about Jannik Sinner’s doping case. Sinner is back in the semifinals in New York. In addition to Federer, another tennis legend, Serena Williams, treated herself to a Honey Deuce.

Serena Williams, who is attending this year as a spectator rather than a player, tried the drink. She recorded her premiere in a video on Tiktok that now has almost 400,000 views. And the six-time US Open champion also enjoyed the Honey Deuce.

“This is not a Honey Deuce,” she reflected in her Tiktok. “This is Honey Advantage. Or Honey Ass, we should rename it!” said the 42-year-old in the video. In addition to the delicious taste, the cup also contributed to the American’s delight.

If the video makes your mouth water, you’ll have to hurry. And most likely get on a plane. Because the hype drink will only be available as long as tennis is played in New York. But there is still good news for those interested.

You can still enjoy it even without a ticket for a tennis match. Grey Goose, the vodka sponsor of the Grand Slam, has put together a list of 140 bars in New York where the cocktail will be available during the two weeks of the US Open. A canned version of the drink will be available in the Big Apple and in Chicago during this period.
