German quartet around Kroos among 30 nominees for Ballon d’Or

The French magazine “France Football” has announced the 30 nominees for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. Toni Kroos, Antonio Rüdiger, Mats Hummels and Florian Wirtz are four German professionals. The ten finalists for the Kopa Trophy for the best youngster and the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper have also been announced.

Kroos, Rüdiger, Hummels and Wirtz replace Jamal Musiala and İlkay Gündoğan, who were the German duo among the 30 nominees for the award, which has been presented since 1956, last year, coming in 26th and 14th respectively. This time, the title holders will be honored on October 28th in Paris. The reigning winner is world champion Lionel Messi, who is not on the list this year. The Argentinian holds the record with eight awards. For the first time since 2003, he and Cristiano Ronaldo are not among the nominees.
