ClipGrab is a free Mac application that lets you download videos from various platforms online and save them on your Mac. In addition to Vimeo and Facebook, the app supports almost 2,000 online platforms such as the ARD Mediathek and offers you the option of downloading selected videos in a variety of formats and quality levels.

If you feed the app with the link to the latest “Sendung mit der Maus”, you can choose the resolution in which it should be loaded and specify the target format in which the video should be transferred. Among other things, the Mac application supports video formats such as MPEG4 and WMV, but also pure audio formats such as MP3 and OGG.

This means that selected music videos can be saved directly as MP3s on your own hard drive. An integrated search function makes it easier to find and download any video from the world’s largest video portal.

Different formats and easy operation

ClipGrab allows you to convert videos to the format you want. For example, videos can be saved as MPEG4 for most devices or MP3 for audio-only purposes. For those who don’t want to lose quality through conversions, there is the option to save the “original format” of the video, as MPEG4, FLV or WebM depending on the source.

It is easy to use: after installation, you just have to insert the link to the video and select the desired format. Then the download starts. If you only need the audio track of a video, you can download it as an MP3 file.

Simple interface for yt-dlp

Under the hood, ClipGrab relies on the command line program “yt-dlp” – accordingly, all sites supported by yt-dlp should also be able to be browsed with ClipGrab.

ClipGrab is available completely free of charge, but the developers offer the opportunity to contribute to its further development through donations. Over 4,000 users have already supported the project financially.
