NFL Power Ranking – 8th place: Dallas Cowboys

  • Season 2023: 12-5, loss in the Wild Card Game
  • Motto for 2024: “Go ahead and mock us! We’re still good!”

The Cowboys are only one place behind the Packers, despite being punished 32-48 in their direct duel in the playoffs – and at home too? Yes, because the weak performance in January should not disguise the fact that Dallas can still boast a strong roster, led by QB Dak Prescott, receiver CeeDee Lamb and defensive all-rounder Micah Parsons. 36 wins in the last three regular seasons, the last time they lost at AT&T Stadium was two years ago (2022 in Week 1). Yes, the team’s enormous popularity leads to a lot of malice when it doesn’t work out in the playoffs like it did recently, but first place in the division is always within reach. What owner Jerry Jones was thinking when he didn’t extend Prescott’s contract, however, is not something you have to understand.

NFL Power Ranking – 7th place: Green Bay Packers

  • Season 2023: 9-8, loss in the Divisional Round
  • Motto for 2024: “Favre – Rodgers – Love!”

The same applies to the Packers as to what is happening in Houston (see below): the quarterback for the coming decade seems to have been found, the team around him is largely in place – so it’s a full attack on the title. The defense has to show that last year was really down to the much-criticized and ultimately fired coordinator Joe Barry, but if Jordan Love continues to perform as he did in the second half of the 2023 season, the Cheeseheads could even have a say in the battle for the top seed in the NFC. In general: First 16 years of Brett Favre (3 MVPs, 1 title), then 15 years of Aaron Rodgers (4 MVPs, 1 title) – and now maybe a decade plus Jordan Love? That’s quickly becoming unfair.
