Zverev completely frustrated: One sentence says everything about his career

Zverev completely frustrated: One sentence says everything about his career

After being eliminated by Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open, Alexander Zverev has found clear words about his performance.

Alexander Zverev can no longer buy anything with it, but on Monday evening the German finally received the appreciation of the US experts that he had not received since the start of the tournament.

It was Chris Eubanks who said that Zverev was the clear favorite to reach the final in the lower half. This of course required a win against Taylor Fritz.

Well, good.

The German number one failed again on the way to her first Grand Slam title, this time in the quarterfinals against the same Taylor Fritz. It was a strange match between the two, especially on the decisive points. And when the ball was in play.

Sure, both Zverev and Fritz can score points with their first serves. But both players are surprisingly passive in the rallies. It was surprising that Zverev was more likely to make a mistake than Fritz.

After Djokovic’s departure, much, yes, almost everything seemed possible

With her victory against Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz has reached the semifinals of a major for the first time. Zverev is almost a permanent fixture in this phase of the Grand Slam tournaments, with the exception of Wimbledon. This US Open, however, was made for Zverev.

At the latest after Novak Djokovic had lost to Alexei Popyrin. Who was there who could have kept the now 27-year-old on his way to the final?

Zverev did lose to Fritz in Wimbledon, but the other losses were special, mainly due to the German’s knee problems. After the more recent defeat, his brother Mischa said that Sascha was actually the better player. But he just didn’t put the horsepower on the streets.

Zverev is getting impatient: “I’m turning 28”

Zverev’s criticism of himself is merciless. Above all, of his signature shot, the backhand. “Normally, you can wake me up at three in the morning and the backhand always works.” Against Fritz, he only noticed on the second point that this was not the case on Tuesday afternoon. “That was abysmal of me today.”

“He will soon be 28 years old,” Zverev said. At that point, he is not interested in anything other than a Grand Slam title. He said that and quickly made his way out of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
