Cyberpunk 2077: Board game becomes a hype

The board game for the video game “Cyberpunk 2077” received impressive support in the first minutes after the crowdfunding launch and is considered funded.

CD Projekt RED and the board game developer Go On Board have started financing the story-based board game “Cyberpunk 2077 – The Board Game” on the crowdfunding platform Gamefound. With complete success.

The funding goal was reached within the first ten minutes. To date, more than 1.1 million US dollars have been raised, secured by over 6,800 backers. This means that the project is more than 1,100 percent funded.

Additionally, all stretch goals were achieved, including a Johnny Silverhand miniature and an additional game mode.

The Deluxe Edition is available for around 140 US dollars

“Cyberpunk 2077 – The Board Game” offers 1 to 4 players the opportunity to experience an alternative scenario of the original game that changes a crucial moment in the video game’s plot.

The board game includes 13 missions and various game mechanics that aim to recreate the video game experience as best as possible. Characters such as V, Judy, Panam and Jackie are featured in the adaptation and are intended to benefit the “immersive experience”.

The standard edition of “Cyberpunk 2077 – The Board Game” costs $79 and includes five game pieces, game boards, a map of Night City with 50 locations, and numerous cards and dice. The deluxe edition for $139 also includes plastic miniatures for all enemies and other upgrades.

    • Afterlife mode to create your own missions.

    • 5 player miniatures, 4 double-layered player boards, 3 enemy boards, 2 terminal boards.

    • 92 plastic cubes, 49 dice.
    • Rulebook and Night City map book with 50+ locations on 30 pages.

  • Paper components:
    • 8 game board tiles printed on both sides, 1 starting tile, 8 tunnel tiles.
  • Mission components:
    • 1 Minotaur game board, Minotaur life tracker, Smasher game board, Basilisk game board.
  • Cardboard opponents:
    • 16 enemy tokens, 1 smasher token, 1 basilisk token, 4 minotaur tokens.
    • 8 health counters in the form of spherical cubes.

Additional content of the Deluxe Edition:

  • Thick cardboard components:
    • 8 game board tiles printed on both sides, 1 starting tile, 8 tunnel tiles.
  • Plastic enemy figures:
    • 16 Enemy miniatures, 1 Smasher miniature, 1 Basilisk miniature, 4 Minotaur miniatures.
    • 4 plastic bases for figures.
    • 8 Health Counters: Spherical cubes and additional counter in the bases of the miniatures.
There is no shortage of content.

A special feature of the board game is the time pressure mechanism, which is intended to give the feeling of being a mercenary in Night City. With over 50 different “Street Stories” and an “Afterlife Mission Generator”, “Cyberpunk 2077 – The Board Game” is intended to enable high replayability and a variety of missions.

Another cyberpunk game in the works at CD Projekt

The video games are also continuing: CD Projekt RED is expanding the “Cyberpunk” universe. In addition to the board game, a successor to “Cyberpunk2077” under the code name “Project Orion”.
