At Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Nordi Mukiele is set to replace the departed Odilon Kossounou. Now he has revealed why he was so keen to move to the Werkself.

The decisive factor for his transfer agreement was – how else could it be – coach Xabi Alonso (42), reports the central defender.

“I spoke to the coach and agreed because I know how the trainer works here, how the club works and how good the trainer and the team are. Bayer is the perfect match for me and that’s why I’m here!” said Mukiele in an interview with the “BILD” newspaper.

Although he is only playing for the Werkself on loan and Bayer is said to have not negotiated a purchase option for him, the French international defender stresses that he absolutely wanted to join Alonso and his team.

“I wanted to be in this team and push them to have another successful season,” he said.

Mukiele describes his playing style as uncompromising and tough. “Off the pitch I laugh a lot. But when I’m on the pitch I will always do my best. I’m a defender and I don’t want the strikers to score against me,” says Mukiele.

He simply loves to defend and drive the opposing attackers crazy, he explains: “I always defend with my heart – even in training!”

The fact that he was with Paris for the past two seasons, The fact that he has played significantly less than he did in Leipzig, also due to injury, is not a problem, says the Frenchman: “Nothing has changed! I am still the same player. I am still hungry!”
