Alex de Minaur expects a tough fight against “left-hander” Jack Draper in the US Open quarterfinals

Alex de Minaur expects a tough fight against “left-hander” Jack Draper in the US Open quarterfinals

Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur believed he would have to play his best tennis if he was to beat Britain’s Jack Draper at the US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year is entering its decisive phase with the remaining players giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.

One of the most anticipated matches in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open is that between Australian De Minaur and Briton Draper. The 25-year-old defeated fellow Australian Jordan Thompson 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. On the other hand, Draper beat Czech Tomas Machac 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets.

De Minaur was quoted in a British media report as stressing the uncertainty of achieving a result in tennis against any opponent. The Sydney-born tennis player maintained that it doesn’t matter how many times you’ve played against someone, as it only matters how you play on a given day, and also praised his opponents.

“I think the most important thing we have to understand is that there is nothing safe in tennis,” he said. “It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve played someone. It doesn’t mean much. When I play Jack, he’s just coming off his best year by far. He plays with a lot of confidence. He’s got some very good weapons, his serve, his backhand and sometimes his forehand. It’s always hard to play someone like him, especially a left-hander. I’ve achieved these matches. I’m going to go out there and give it my all and fight, and these matches are there to be won.
