The more than 400 flights have been conducted over the past eight months as the company ramps up its test flight operations in advance of creditable flight tests with the FAA.

Adam Goldstein, CEO and founder of Archer, said: “When we first set the goal of 400 flights this year, it was considered ambitious, but now, in August, we have already achieved it. I am proud of the Archer flight test team and the supporting groups that made this possible.”

Each flight provides important data that Archer’s teams use to evaluate and improve the aircraft’s stresses, vibrations, performance and flight characteristics.

Most recently, the Archer flight test team focused on five key test areas:

  • Transition flights: We continue to conduct transition flights over longer distances and at higher speeds to collect data, extend endurance and ensure maximum safety.
  • High-speed operations: Increasing the number of flights per day to simulate the high cadence of expected commercial operations of Archer and to test the durability of Midnight.
  • Improve landing profiles: Perform a series of hover landings in different wind conditions with different descent rates and intercept heights to extend Midnight’s wind range and further optimize its landing profile.
  • Improving acoustic measurement: Conduct a series of hover operations with various microphone arrays to collect additional data for the FAA and to further evaluate and optimize Midnight’s noise signature.
  • Optimization of control laws: Regression through the envelope with a series of optimizations to the control laws that extend Midnight’s endurance.

This announcement follows Archer’s planned network in Los Angeles and its recently announced developments with Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. It also follows key milestones such as certification as a commercial airline and the recent delivery of Archer’s first aircraft to the United States Air Force.
