Edewecht – The tennis women’s 30 team from TC Edewecht crowned a summer season that couldn’t have gone better with the championship in the association league. In the last game on their home court, the Ammerland women followed up with a 6-0 victory against SV Gehrden and were then able to gain promotion to the top league.

The starting position for the Edewecht team on Saturday in their duel with the fourth-placed team was extremely simple. A single set win should have been enough for the hosts to win the title. And Christin Kruse made sure of that in her duel with Ines Warnke. “But we stayed calm and played through our singles first,” said team captain Barbara Haskamp with a laugh. Kruse managed a 6:0, 6:0 victory, as did Lisa Twiling against Claudia Sychla. The matches of Caroline Königs (6:1, 6:0) and Henrike Kalettka (6:2, 6:3) were also German affairs. Königs/Melina Achtermann (6:1, 6:4) and Haskamp/Kruse (4:6, 6:3, 11:9) then added further victories in the doubles.

“It was a really nice end to this season. “We were confident that we would win the championship with this starting position,” said Haskamp, who was happy that all players were able to play again in the season finale.

Now the Ammerland women will continue in the top league. “This is an exciting league for us, we are really looking forward to it,” says Haskamp. Apart from the further trips and the new opponents, nothing will change for the Edewecht women. “We will also continue in the top league in the women’s 30 with a team of four.” That suits us a bit, because there aren’t that many of us. “On the other hand, it would have been interesting to see how it goes on a match day with six singles,” Haskamp weighs up.

Now the Ammerland women are starting to prepare for the winter season. “We want to get promoted to the top league,” says Haskamp combatively. A big plus for the Ammerland women: the team is now starting joint training under the direction of the Wiefelstede professional player Vivian Heisen.
