Allegations against senior IPS officers in Kerala by a Left MP continue to stir up state politics – ThePrint – PTIFeed

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 3 (PTI) – Ruling LDF MP PV Anvar’s serious allegations against some senior IPS officers further inflamed the state’s politics with the Left MP holding a meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan amid opposition demands in Kerala for a probe into the matter by central agencies.

After his nearly hour-long meeting with the CM, Anvar said he had written his complaint to Vijayan and his role in the matter was over.

“I have met the CM, submitted my complaint to him in writing and explained the whole matter in detail. He (CM) has listened to me and I am confident that a thorough and honest investigation will be conducted. I will also give a copy of this complaint to CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan.

“This concludes my role as a party member in this matter. My responsibility now is to cooperate with the investigation,” he said in a statement.

The MP from Nilambur, who had made damning allegations against ADGP (Law and Order), Mr. Ajith Kumar, further said that he was not demanding the resignation of the senior police officer or the CM’s political secretary, P. Sasi.

“On what basis can I demand her removal? The party and the prime minister will decide what to do,” he said.

He also said he had pointed out the bad experiences people had had with some of the police officers, as well as the bad elements within the force and the corruption within it.

His statement came on the same day that the Kerala government constituted a high-level team under state police chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb to investigate Anvar’s complaint and another by ADGP Ajithkumar.

The opposition Congress party UDF and BJP in the state described the investigation ordered by the state government as a “farce”.

Both parties alleged that serious allegations had been made against the CM’s office and that he was afraid of the ADGP.

Opposition leader in Parliament VD Satheesan demanded a CBI investigation into the allegations against senior police officials.

A similar demand was also made by BJP state president K Surendran and party president Sobha Surendran, who said the central authorities should investigate the allegations.

Both the UDF and the Congress questioned how an effective investigation could be conducted when the ADGP and the political secretary continued to be in their respective posts.

The BJP leader also demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister.

LDF chief TP Ramakrishnan rejected the opposition’s allegations, saying similar allegations had been made against the chief minister and his office in the past and the public had rejected them every time.

People rejected the allegations because they had seen the good work of the prime minister, he said.

“These allegations will not affect the Left Front in the state. Action will be taken against the culprits. The government is not in the dock,” the LDF chief added.

The Nilambur MP put the CPI(M)-led government in a difficult position by on Sunday accusing Vijayan’s political secretary P Sasi and ADGP (law and order) Ajithkumar of betraying trust and failing to discharge their duties honestly.

Anvar had alleged on Sunday that Kumar had intercepted telephone conversations of ministers, had links to gold smuggling gangs and was involved in serious crimes.

He also made serious allegations against Pathanamthitta SP Sujith Das. PTI HMP HMP SS
