Last weekend there was confusion at Longford SFC following a controversial point in the clash between Carrickedmond and Mullinalaghta.

Carrickedmond came from behind to earn a 2-12 draw with the former Leinster kings, but the validity of the result was called into question amid claims that referee David Tiernan had mistakenly added a point to Carrickedmond’s first-half tally. The referee had given the half-time score as 2-6 to 0-6 in Mullinalaghta’s favour, but this did not match the 2-6 to 0-5 on the scoreboard or the notes of reporters watching the game in Ballymahon.

Although this result meant that both teams from Group B qualified for the quarter-finals, it was extremely costly for Dromard, who ended up on the same number of points (five) as Mullinalaghta, Carrickedmond and Clonguish, but were eliminated on goal difference.

Frankie Dolan’s Abbeylara led the group with six points from five games.

It now remains to be seen whether Dromard will appeal the result of the Carrickedmond v Mullinalaghta match. Longford GAA appeared to be preparing for this when it posted on X that the “final group placing is subject to confirmation of referee reports”.
