Firefox web browser: Versions 130 and 115.15 ESR are available for download

Mozilla has released version 130 of the open source web browser Firefox, as well as Firefox 115.15 ESR for older macOS versions. The updates eliminate several newly discovered security vulnerabilities, including some with a severity rating of “high”. Firefox users should therefore install the update immediately.

Regarding the new features in Firefox 130, the developers said: “Firefox now allows translation of selected parts of text in different languages ​​after a full-page translation. Firefox now offers an easy way to test experimental features with a new Firefox Lab page in Settings. Enabling the Web Codecs API on desktop platforms, which provides low-level access to audio and video encoders and decoders.”

In addition, Firefox 130 offers optimizations and bug fixes for the user interface, support for web standards, presentation of web content, stability and reliability, and integrated developer tools. The changes for developers are described on this web page.

Firefox 130 for macOS Catalina 10.15 and newer is available for download directly from the Mozilla server. Existing installations can soon be updated using the application’s update function (Firefox menu => About Firefox).

Firefox 115.15 ESR has been released with security fixes for the older system versions macOS Sierra 10.12, macOS High Sierra 10.13 and macOS Mojave 10.14. Note: Firefox 115 ESR will not receive any further updates. Users of the macOS version series mentioned can switch to Pale Moon, a Firefox fork, to continue using a well-maintained, secure web browser.
