(Kun). In the Tennis Hessen League, the Ober-Mörler TC women’s 50s will face a showdown on the last match day in the fight to stay in the league. After the 2:4 away defeat at TC Rosenhöhe Offenbach on the penultimate match day, the team led by team captain Eva Breitenfelder needed an away win at TC Blau-Weiß Bad Soden to finish the Meden game round in order to stay in the league.

After their confident 5:1 home win against TC Rüsselsheim on the last match day, the men’s 40s of TC Bad Vilbel are still up for grabs in a long-distance duel with Kelkheimer TEV for the Hesse championship. The Brunnenstadt team have to play away at TuS Griesheim, while league leaders Kelkheim travel to Baunatal.

Women 50 (4-person), Group 33, Rosenhöhe Offenbach – Ober-Mörler TC 4:2: In the extremely balanced series, seven of the eight teams were still fighting to avoid relegation before the penultimate match day – the two direct competitors from Offenbach and Ober-Mörlen were part of this field. The hosts were able to draw on a full team and for the first time this season were able to field the top four players on the entry list. This meant that even Offenbach’s number four Heidi Närlich (LK 10) had a significantly better performance class than Ober-Mörlen’s number one Cordula Riebe (LK 13). Nevertheless, the OMTC ladies did well and only narrowly missed a possible draw. The individual matches initially went as expected. Dorthe Wiedenhöft-Nass, Alexandra Södler and Eva Breitenfelder lost their duels in straight sets. Riebe in position one also had to give up the first set, but then turned around and was able to prevail in the match tiebreak with all her routine.

With the score at 1:3 after the singles, the guests’ hopes now rested on the strong doubles. Södler, alongside Christina Kolbe, was able to prevail in the second doubles against much stronger opponents with superior net play, especially in the second set. Riebe and Wiedenhöft-Nass also played a strong match in the first doubles, fought back after losing the first set and only lost extremely unluckily in the match tiebreak.

“Still a great performance from us underdogs,” said OMTC team captain Breitenfelder. This defeat has seen the Wetterau team slip into one of the two relegation spots. “Now we have to give it our all in the last game of the season against Bad Soden and still manage to stay in the league,” says Breitenfelder.

In shorthand / Singles: Beate Trapp – Cordula Riebe 6:3, 3:6, 8:10; Margit Sperling – Dorthe Wiedenhöft-Nass 6:1, 6:0; Antje Grigereit – Alexandra Södler 7:5, 6:0; Heidi Närlich – Eva Breitenfelder 6:1, 6:2. / Doubles: Trapp/Sperling – Riebe/Wiedenhöft-Nass 6:4, 4,6, 10:7; Grigereit/Cuadros-Beele – Södler/Kolbe 6:7, 2:6.

Men 40 (4-person), Group 73, TC Bad Vilbel – TC Rüsselsheim 5:1: After an even start in his singles, Roland Ramer quickly found his rhythm and gave his Rüsselsheim opponent no chance with well-placed shots. TCBV team captain Bastian Hehner also dominated his match from the start and had little trouble with his opponent. Dennis Linden also got off to a good start, already leading 6:2 and 5:2 before his opponents reared up again and forced Linden into the tiebreak, in which the Bad Vilbel number three ultimately held his own with a score of 7:3. Johannes Freise in position four secured the fourth match point for the Brunnenstadt team with a clear two-set victory. »So the party was already decided after the singles. “However, since we still have a chance of winning the Hesse championship, we wanted to bring the two double points to Bad Vilbel,” explains Hehner, who won his match alongside Linden with ease, while Ramer and Freise ultimately had to admit defeat in the champions tiebreak despite having their own match point, thus suffering Vilbel’s only point loss of the day.

In shorthand / Singles: Roland Ramer – Rolf Vogel 6:2, 6:2; Bastian Hehner – Daniel Landgraf 6:2, 6:2; Dennis Linden – Torsten Fuchs 6:2, 7:6; Johannes Freise – Dennis Wunderlich 6:1, 6:0. – Doubles: Hehner/Linden – Vogel/Fuchs 6:1, 6:0; Ramer/Freise – Landgraf/Wunderlich 6:1, 3:6, 10:12.
