Driver injured after losing control of ATV in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, MI – An ATV driver was injured when he lost control of the vehicle in a Cass County community.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at 7:52 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, on Tharp Lake Street in Calvin Township.

An initial investigation revealed that the SUV was driven by Thomas Klaer, 29, of Elkhart, Indiana, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The 29-year-old was traveling at high speed before he got into a ditch and lost control of the ATV, police said. Klaer then hit his head on the handlebars and was separated from the ATV.

Klaer was taken by ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.

According to police, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The accident is still being investigated.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Penn Fire Department and SMCAS ambulance during the incident.
