Ticketmaster faces regulatory investigation over “dynamic pricing” of Oasis tickets

TICKETMASTER is being investigated by the government because of its “dynamic pricing” strategy.

Last night, the market-leading website was referred to the Competition and Markets Authority for handling Oasis’ 17-date reunion tour, which sold out in a matter of hours.

Conservative MP David Davis said: “The rules are not working – this must be corrected”

The comments came after fans reported being stuck in a scheduled “virtual queue” on the site over the weekend.

And when they got to the front of the line, they discovered that the tickets were being sold at double face value.

Some fans reported that due to dynamic pricing, tickets costing £148 were down to £355 within hours of going on sale.

The concept of prices rising in line with customer demand was introduced by Ticketmaster in 2022.

Culture Minister Lisa Nandy confirmed that the issue would be included in the government’s review of ticket sales and consumer protection.

She said: “It’s depressing that the prices are so inflated that ordinary fans have no chance to enjoy their favorite band live.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said on the Matt Chorley Show on BBC Radio 5 Live: “This is really important because this is not just an Oasis problem.

“We will make sure that tickets are available at a price that people can afford.”

In addition, the Advertising Standards Authority said it had received 450 complaints from fans about Ticketmaster’s advertising – for “misleading claims about availability and pricing”.

And fans were furious after Twickent’s official resale site listed tickets for nearly £500 plus a £140 booking fee.

Fan Don Logan fumed: “Face value at Twickets, they said. Legalized advertising.”

Twickets founder Richard Davies said: “Twickets does not set the face value price – this is determined by the event and the original ticket company.”

Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher yesterday hugged Man City boss Pep Guardiola at the launch of a new City clothing range designed by Noel.
