“Amateurish!” Andy Murray criticizes US Open organizers for playing at night

“Scheduling in tennis is a total mess. It looks so amateurish when matches are played at 2, 3 or 4 in the morning. Fix it,” three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray wrote on X on Monday.

Zheng won the rematch of the Olympic final well after midnight on Monday night, and no women’s match was ever planned in Flushing Meadows. “It’s always nice to play in the night session because I’m used to it,” Zheng said to the few fans who were still left in the 24,000-seat Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Germany’s star Zverev finished even later against Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry on Saturday night – but missed the record for the latest game in US Open history by 15 minutes. In 2022, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner duelled until 2:50 a.m. But Zverev did not want to blame the organizers: “We were just unlucky that the other matches went on for so incredibly long. The tournament can’t do anything about that.”
