Zverev meets at Arthur Ashe Stadium

First appearance in the largest tennis arena in the world: Germany’s tennis star Alexander Zverev has to play in the quarterfinals of the US Open at midday or early afternoon and will be appearing in Arthur Ashe Stadium for the first time this year. The duel between the Hamburg native and the American Taylor Fritz is scheduled for Tuesday as the second game of the day session, which begins at 12:00 noon local time (6:00 p.m. CEST) with the party between Paula Badosa (Spain) and Emma Navarro (USA).

The Tokyo Olympic champion is the slight favorite going into the match against the 12th ranked player in the world, to whom he lost in the round of 16 at Wimbledon around two months ago.

Both players had not yet played in the 24,000-seat arena on their way to the quarterfinals in New York. Zverev is aiming for his first Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows at the 35th attempt, and after the elimination of Olympic champion Novak Djokovic and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz, the chance seems great.

“I think from now on there will be no easy games,” said Zverev, who played in a quarterfinal in New York for the fourth time and has been in top form so far: “I am happy with the level of my tennis.”
