Despite critical and commercial acclaim for THPS 1 + 2the franchise is said to be on hold once again, which is pretty disappointing. Fortunately, if a new update related to the property is any indication, there seems to be a new reason to hope for an imminent announcement.

Last weekend, Activision changed the branding on all of its social channels to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Tony Hawk’s Pro SkaterThe first, published in September 1999, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Paved the Way was a huge success and in many ways helped establish a new genre. The fact that Activision is now branding its social channels in this way has led many THPS fans to believe that Activision may be planning a big new reveal related to the series to show where it’s going next. Instead, however, these anniversary images could simply be a way to celebrate the creation of the franchise and nothing more.

So could a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game be on the way? Well, from what we currently know, that seems unlikely. In the wake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Reports and credible leaks suggested that developer Vicarious Visions next planned to remake the third and fourth games in the series. However, for one reason or another, Activision scrapped those plans, while Vicarious Visions itself moved to collaborate with Blizzard.

With Activision now owned by Microsoft, the publisher’s new parent company may have a desire to do something with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. As mentioned, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 sold quite well, showing that there is clearly a desire among fans for similar experiences.
