When Apple broadcasts its announcement film worldwide again on September 9 at 7 p.m., the new iPhone 16 is likely to make headlines, as it is and remains Apple’s most important product.

Even though smartphones reached a development plateau years ago and are only getting minimally better year after year, there is no other tech product that causes as much excitement as the new iPhone.

The focus of this year’s announcement is likely to be Apple’s artificial intelligence called Apple Intelligence (Tried Apple Intelligence). In the summer, plans were presented for how the most important technology trend of the last few years would find its way onto the iPhone.

Not as radical as Google in early August But Apple is unlikely to focus on artificial intelligence. When presenting the Pixel smartphone, Google talked almost exclusively about artificial intelligence and only mentioned the new devices in passing.

Apple will choose a different focus, if only because Apple Intelligence will not be ready when the new devices go on sale and has only been announced for the USA sometime in the fall.

iPhone 16 with additional button?

Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 15 Pro an additional button was introduced. The action button can be assigned all sorts of functions such as a flashlight or camera. Now it looks as if there will be another button this year: a real camera button, like the ones Sony phones have had for over 10 years.

Since the iPhone has become the most important camera for many people, such a taste would certainly make sense and make everyday life easier. Rumors suggest that the new button will also have a touch field. So you could swipe over it to zoom and press it to open the camera app and open photos or videos.

Otherwise, the changes to the iPhone are likely to be within the usual range: better processors, brighter and slightly larger screens and almost the same design with new colors.

The rumors about a significantly thinner or even foldable iPhone are more of a thing of the future. A very thin iPhone is unlikely to become an issue until next year at the earliest, and a folding iPhone even later.

Big anniversary for the Apple Watch

The innovations in the Apple Watch could be more striking. It is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Exactly ten years ago, on September 9, 2014, Apple introduced the first smart watch. It will be exciting to see whether the company will make a major improvement to mark the anniversary or even launch a completely new model.

There have been rumors like this for years, but you should be very careful with the Apple Watch. Unlike with the iPhone, Apple is much better at preventing indiscretions and keeping changes secret until the last minute.

Nevertheless, there is always speculation that the screen could be larger and the bezel around it smaller. Anyone who has already bought one or two straps for the Apple Watch may also be worried that a completely redesigned model could also come with a new connection for straps.

Unlike the Apple Watch itself, where a new model is released every year, the very first wristbands that came onto the market in 2015 are still compatible with the latest models. Even the Apple Watch Ultra, introduced two years ago, uses the same wristband connection system as the very first Apple Watch.

Apple could introduce these new products

New iPhones and watches have almost been discontinued. It remains exciting to see whether Apple will introduce other products as well. New Airpods headphones are very likely. Since there are still numerous models that use the (now) old Lightning connector, new models with USB-C seem very likely.

New iPads are often introduced at the same time as iPhones. A new entry-level iPad and a new iPad Mini are currently conceivable, but both models have not been updated for a while.

Finally, new TV boxes and speakers could also provide a surprise. New Mac computers, on the other hand, are less likely. Things will probably get more exciting at the end of October or in November.
