These series and seasons will be available in the ARD media library in September 2024

While ZDF is not stingy with new releases, ARD is taking a more leisurely approach. But at least three new series will find their way into the ARD’s media library in September 2024.

7 September: Seconds – In the rubble of the catastrophe

Marita Kaila (Leena Pöysti) is the head of an accident investigation team in the series “Seconds – In the Ruins of the Disaster”. When a mysterious explosion in a train accident at a marshalling yard kills over 60 people, she and her team set out to find the cause of the disaster. Under great public pressure, the team must find out as quickly as possible what is behind the accident: Was it human or technical failure? Or did someone accept the death of so many people or even deliberately cause it? What complicates matters is that Marita is hiding a fatal secret.

The series will be available in the ARD Mediathek on September 7, 2024. It will be broadcast on NDR from September 21, 2024, from 11:15 p.m.

22 September: Until then, Marianne – A Leonard Cohen Series

On September 21, 2024, Leonard Cohen would have turned 90. “So long, Marianne” tells the legendary love story between the Canadian singer and poet and the Norwegian Marianne Ihlen in the 1960s: The young poet Cohen (Alex Wolff) flies to the dropout island of Hydra, ahead of his family’s expectations. There he meets the Norwegian Marianne Ihlen (Thea Sofie Loch Næss as the young Marianne, Lise Fjeldstad as the older one). For him, it is love at first sight. But the young mother lives in a toxic relationship with the author Axel Jensen (Jonas Strand Gravil). It was only her acquaintance with Cohen that encouraged her to separate and live a love with him in which there are no possessive claims.

The series will be available in the ARD Mediathek on September 22, 2024. The series will be broadcast on NDR from October 2, 2024 at 11:30 p.m.

29 September: Sam – A Saxon

Based on the true story of ex-police officer Sam Meffire, his rise and fall, this miniseries follows Sam’s desperate search for home, his fight for recognition and justice. In the wild years after German reunification, Sam (Malick Bauer) goes from being East Germany’s first black police officer to a media star and finally a criminal. The series was awarded the 2024 Grimme Prize in the “Fiction” category.

From September 29th, all episodes of “Sam – Ein Sachse” will be available to stream in the ARD Mediathek. The linear broadcast will follow from September 30th, 2024 at 8:15 p.m. on MDR television.
