Tennis – All clear for Zverev after twisting his ankle: “Everything is OK” – Sport

New York (dpa) – Alexander Zverev has withdrawn after reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open due to a possible injury to his right foot. In the 3:6, 6:1, 6:2, 6:2 defeat against the American Brandon Nakashima, the 2021 Olympic tennis champion sprained his foot in the fourth set and limped briefly. “I took a funny step, twisted my ankle slightly. “But everything is fine, nothing to worry about,” said Zverev after the party.

At the 2022 French Open, Zverev suffered a serious ankle injury, had to undergo surgery and was out for months.

Like in Wimbledon now against Fritz – with one difference

At the Grand Slam tournament in New York, the 27-year-old from Hamburg will now face US professional Taylor Fritz, who was defeated in the Wimbledon round of 16 this season. At the time, Zverev was struggling with a knee injury from the previous match. “Now I’m healthy, that’s the big difference,” he said.

By reaching the quarterfinals at the US Open, Zverev has also qualified for the ATP Finals of the best eight tennis professionals of the season in mid-November in Turin. This was announced by the professional organization ATP after the match. Only the world number one Jannik Sinner from Italy had previously achieved this.
