Pixel 9a: Is this really Google’s new smartphone? New leak shows completely changed design (gallery)

At the moment, we can only speculate whether Google will launch a Pixels 9a Will be launched or will the budget series be paused for a while. A few days ago, leakers made a statement and published the very first photo of the new Google smartphone. But can this really be the Pixel 9a? There are serious doubts about that…

Pixel 9a case

There are good reasons to believe that Google will no Pixel 9a will bring to market. These range from the complete portfolio to the leaked roadmap and pricing. In the linked article, we recently collected all the arguments against the Pixel 9, which can hardly be refuted, at least as evidence.

Regardless, a few days ago there was the first major Pixel 9a leak, as two photos of the Pixel 9a released that supposedly show the real smartphone. In fact, given the pixel ratios of the last few years, that would not be surprising at all early, as we have already seen such early shots or renders several times that have ultimately proven to be true. Wherever such shots come from, a full nine months before the expected presentation.

The uncertainty, apart from the possible non-appearance of the device, lies more in the content. Because for the first time in years we are seeing a smartphone without a camera bar. As we know, this has been an integral part of the identity of Pixel smartphones since the sixth generation and is revised every year. We recently summarized all the details about the Pixel 9 camera bar for you. Take a look at the following pictures.

Is this really a Pixel 9a?
Can a smartphone without a camera bar really be a Google Pixel? There is no doubt that Google could one day dare to move away from the signature design – but wouldn’t they rather do that with the larger generation and not the budget offshoot? It’s not just about the trademark, but also about the technical side. The fact that cameras protrude far out from the casing is the case with many smartphones today and is a necessity given the current state of technology.

If Google has somehow managed to make the camera components enormously smaller or to “push” them surprisingly far into the casing, that is a major innovation and certainly not something that would be premiered in a budget smartphone. The designer of the Pixel 9 camera bar has announced smaller components for the future, but it won’t happen quite that quickly.

The second theory says that the cameras have not been made smaller, but the casing has been made larger instead. The smartphone would then be significantly bulkier. It could potentially also have a larger battery, but this would also add weight. But first it has to be clarified whether the Pixel 9a will even exist…
