NFL meets Wall Street: The most lucrative sports league in the USA opens the door to institutional investors

The National Football League (NFL) opens itself up to the private equity industry for the first time, allowing investors to acquire minority stakes in teams.

With this vote, the NFL has granted access to the arena to certain groups: the individual companies Arctos Partners, Ares Management Corporation and Sixth Street, as well as a consortium of 5 funds – Blackstone, Carlyle, CVC, Dynasty Equity and Ludis.

With this decision, the NFL is following the example of other major US sports leagues. Investors such as Ares, who have already invested in Chelsea FC and Inter Miami, see great potential in US football, especially in view of the $110 billion media rights package.
