Fire that led to evacuation of apartments in Aberdeen was “deliberate,” according to police

Police believe a fire in Aberdeen led to the evacuation of a block of flats and believe it was started deliberately.

Emergency services were called after an alarm was raised about the fire in Richmond Street at around 5.40pm on Saturday.

Scottish police said a woman was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Detective Constable Abbie Harris said: “The fire is being treated as deliberate and a joint investigation is being carried out with the fire service.”

“Investigations to clarify the exact circumstances are ongoing and anyone who has noticed anything suspicious is asked to come forward.

“We are also asking the public to check private CCTV and dashboard cameras if they have been driving in the area and to come forward if there is anything that may assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101quoting incident number 2859 of 31 August or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where tips can be given anonymously.
