The second season of “Fire Country” is coming up. Thanks to a guest star, the universe of the drama series will soon grow considerably.

It’s been about a year since the US series “Fire Country” celebrated its German premiere and paid homage to the willingness of real firefighters to make sacrifices in a mixture of action, tragedy and drama. From September 2nd, things will get dicey again for the main character and reluctant hero, Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot, 35): The second season of the CBS series will start in Germany on Universal TV and will rely on tried and tested elements from season one, but at the same time break new ground. What is also not to be missed in the ten episodes: In addition to actual fires, there are plenty of interpersonal fires to put out.

From prison to purgatory and back – this is where season one left us

Time and again, prisoner Bode Donovan has risked his life in various missions as a temporary firefighter and has proven that, despite his troubled past, his heart is in the right place. The prison program, which allows inmates like him to be released early from prison if they join a firefighter unit in return, also seems to be a complete success. Or is it?

For Bode, the supposed hero’s journey turned into a circular conclusion – at the end of the first season, he found himself in his prison cell after taking the blame for a drug offense in a selfless act to protect a friend. At the beginning of the new episodes, Bode seems to have largely come to terms with his fate behind bars. But then a devastating catastrophe strikes his hometown of Edgewater – literally: the men and women of Station 42 have to fight against the consequences of a massive earthquake.

Things are happening in quick succession

Both bad and good news: unlike season one, which with its 22 episodes of around 45 minutes each is reminiscent of old series productions, season two is based on the now established norm. In other words: with ten episodes, it is more than half the number of the first season. Apart from the fact that it means you lose a weekly TV appointment much more quickly, this also has advantages. The story is freed from some of the dramaturgically unnecessary length and inevitably focuses more on the essentials.

This includes action-packed missions and personal dramas for the protagonists in the significantly shorter season two. The latter is once again provided by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, who, together with lead actor Thieriot, raised “Fire Country” from the ashes and had already had a hand in series such as “Grey’s Anatomy”. And star producer Jerry Bruckheimer, 80, continues to keep a watchful eye on the series – to ensure that there is no shortage of bombast.

More fire and a growing universe

In several respects (and in a positive sense), “Fire Country” is turning out to be a TV wildfire. US broadcaster CBS has already commissioned a third season. The first spin-off, “Sheriff Country,” is also scheduled to launch in the 2025/2026 season. The basis for this will be a character that German fans of the series are yet to get to know: “Deadpool” star Morena Baccarin, 45, has a guest appearance in the second “Fire Country” season as Edgewater Sheriff Mickey Fox. The announced spin-off revolves around her character and, similar to the “Law & Order” or “NCIS” universe, will certainly lead to one or two crossover episodes.

But a spin-off might not be the end of the series, as the US industry website “Deadline” reports. According to the report, a big name has already been signed up as a guest star and potential spin-off lead actor for the confirmed third season. Jared Padalecki, 42, whose series “Walker” had just ended, will wear the Edgewater firefighter uniform in three episodes. Given his star power, it is assumed that, as with Baccarin, the guest role will serve as an accelerant for a separate series.

The specific date is now September 2nd. Universal TV will then show two episodes of the new “Fire Country” season every Monday from 8:15 p.m. All episodes are also available on demand.
