Thane, Sept 1 (PTI) – A 46-year-old woman was allegedly cheated by a man she had befriended through a marriage brokering website, an official said on Sunday.

The victim, who works as a personal assistant with the Mumbai Police, is divorced and has given information about remarriage, he said.

“The accused, Pratik Sanjay Deore-Patil, contacted her through the website. Later, he promised her good returns and lured her to invest Rs 95,000 between March and August. He also threatened her,” said the Kalwa police station officer.

He has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act for cheating, breach of trust, intimidation and other offences but has not been arrested yet, the official added. PTI COR MVG BNM
