Harris calls on Trump to have ‘mics on the whole time’ during debate | World

Ammon News – Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. presidential election in November, challenged her Republican rival Donald Trump to a debate with her on Saturday, with microphones on throughout the event.

Harris and the former president have both agreed to a debate hosted by ABC News on September 10.

“Donald Trump is capitulating to his advisers who won’t allow him to debate in front of a microphone. If his own team doesn’t have confidence in him, the American people certainly can’t,” Harris said in a post on X.

“We are running for President of the United States. Let’s debate in a transparent manner – with microphones on the whole time.”
Trump has said he preferred to leave his microphone on and that he did not like having it muted during the last debate against then-presidential candidate Joe Biden.

So-called “hot mics” can help or hurt political candidates by picking up offhand comments that were sometimes not intended for public consumption. Muted microphones also prevent debaters from interrupting their opponents.

An ABC spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The debate would be the first meeting between Harris and Trump since Biden dropped out of the presidential race following a weak performance at a CNN debate in June that raised doubts about his mental fitness.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz and Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance have agreed to a debate on October 1 on CBS News.
