How do you enjoy your holidays at home?

How do you enjoy your holidays at home?

While many people travel to faraway places during the summer holidays, others prefer to spend their holidays at home in the Wittelsbacher Land instead. This saves you a stressful round trip with additional costs and extensive preparation. In addition, you know how and where you can best relax so that you don’t come back from your holiday more exhausted than you went in. The trend is called staycation. The term is made up of the English words “stay” and “vacation” and describes spending your holiday in your own four walls or the surrounding area. Our editorial team asked around in Friedberg city centre and asked passers-by whether they too are following the staycation trend.

The Friedberg weekly market triggers a holiday feeling

Violetta Bäckerle, a native of Friedberg, currently lives in Augsburg, but likes to return to her former home for the holidays. She used to always want to get out of Friedberg and travel to other places. “Now I like to spend the holidays here with my mum and going to the weekly market in particular gives me a real holiday feeling.” Even now that everything has become so expensive, you can still buy beautiful flowers there cheaply and support the farmers.” A holiday at home also has the advantage of having everything you need close at hand, which is a big advantage for her as a pastry chef.

Her mother Eva Bäckerle, who works in the Friedberg World Shop, sees it the same way: “I like spending time in Friedberg. What I definitely always need to relax is water nearby, and I have that here too.” In addition, before you leave, you have to do a lot more work in the shop the week before, and as soon as you get back, your email inbox is still full from the week you were away. In Friedberg, she can enjoy her free time in peace, without being exposed to the additional stress that men have when they feel like it. “The World Shop also currently has a hammock made of old parachutes that you can put up between two trees or on the balcony, so you can take the time to read and relax on the lawn.”

Sabine Hahmann, also from Friedberg, feels the same way. She recently had a baby and is now spending the holidays at home with her family. “A baby is a lot of work, but I’m particularly happy to be able to spend and enjoy the time at home.”

The garden in Dasing is a holiday oasis

Bastian Langmer from Friedberg South also stays at home in the summer. “I have to work because I don’t earn much.” He then has the weekends for leisure. But even then he prefers to be in his hometown.

Lioba Kramer comes from Dasing, but often visits nearby Friedberg. “Lots of garden, with plants and everything that goes with it.” Yes, I love spending my holidays in my garden and you have to water it a lot when it gets so warm. I also meet friends from time to time or spend time with the grandchildren.”
