49ers announce injuries to NFL rookie Ricky Pearsall after shooting in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: The San Francisco 49ers have announced the severity of injuries to their rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall after the 23-year-old athlete suffered a gunshot wound during a shocking robbery attempt.

The incident, which occurred in the heart of San Francisco on Saturday, August 31, left fans and the football community stunned, as Pearsall’s condition remains serious but stable, the Daily Mail reported.

The tragic incident occurred at San Francisco’s Union Square, a popular shopping and tourist destination, where Ricky Pearsall was reportedly attending an autograph signing.

According to reports, Pearsall was attacked by assailants who wanted to steal his Rolex watch. During the robbery, Pearsall was shot in the chest, which resulted in immediate medical attention and subsequent hospitalization.

Deebo Samuel, also a wide receiver and key player for the 49ers, immediately reassured his fans about Pearsall’s condition via social media.

Samuel posted a message on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “He is fine. Thank God!!!!” accompanied by praying hands and crossed fingers.

This post was shared about an hour after the shooting was reported and offers a glimmer of hope amid the disturbing reports.

A video now circulating on the Internet shows Pearsall being loaded into an ambulance shortly after the shooting.

The Arizona native and first-year receiver for the 49ers was scheduled to make his NFL debut in just one week on September 9th in a game against the New York Jets. However, his participation in that game was already questionable due to an existing shoulder injury.

Pearsall’s shooting sparked a rapid response from San Francisco city authorities.

Mayor London Breed released a statement about the incident, expressing concern for Pearsall and highlighting the quick response of police.

“This afternoon, an attempted robbery occurred in Union Square in which San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot. San Francisco Police immediately responded to the scene and the shooter was arrested,” Breed said.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins also spoke out, condemning the violence and vowing to seek justice in this case.

“Violent crime has no place in our city and I will continue to stand side by side with San Francisco police and law enforcement to make our city safer,” Jenkins said in her statement.

The shooting casts a shadow over the 49ers’ preparations for the upcoming NFL season, and Pearsall’s possible absence presents additional challenges for the team.

One netizen noted: “The politicians allowed this to happen. This is why we can’t have nice things in San Francisco. Vote for elected politicians who will be tough on crime so they can actually lead the city to better times. No more homeless. No more thieves. No more open drug use. Crack down now.” [sic]

Another added: “Tragic and horrific. Get well soon Ricky.”
