Construction work on the A1 – motorway in Hamburg narrowed

Construction work on the A1 – motorway in Hamburg narrowed

Due to construction work, the A1 motorway between Hamburg-Billstedt and -Moorfleet will be narrowed for three weeks in the direction of Bremen. Instead of the usual three lanes, only two lanes will be available to traffic, and on several nights only one lane, as Autobahn GmbH Nord announced. The construction site will be set up between the Moorfleet tunnel and the Norderelbbrücke from 10 a.m. on Monday. This is likely to lead to disruptions in the direction of Bremen from Tuesday morning at the latest.

The Moorfleet junction in the direction of Bremen will be completely closed from Wednesday to Saturday, and the ramp will remain closed until the end of the construction work on September 23. Users of the A25 from Geesthacht and Bergedorf must expect delays before the Hamburg-Südost triangle. The access to the A1 in the direction of Bremen will be reduced to one lane. Speeds of no more than 60 km/h are not permitted in the entire construction site area.

Traffic is already being temporarily slowed down a few kilometers further north before the Hamburg-Ost junction. On the A1 between Stapelfeld and Barsbüttel, the road markings are being renewed until Friday. To do this, the motorway will be temporarily narrowed to one lane both in the direction of Bremen and in the direction of Lübeck. The work will be carried out in a mobile construction site during daytime operations between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. “Disruptions are to be expected during the work,” says Autobahn GmbH.

The motorway section in the southeast of Hamburg is one of the busiest motorways in Germany. On average, 136,000 vehicles pass through it every day, around 21 percent of which are trucks. The A1 bundles the traffic from the Baltic Sea region and Scandinavia, which flows past Hamburg over the Elbe bridges. According to Autobahn GmbH, the construction site section was last completely renovated in 2008.
