Accident in Darlington: Woman taken to hospital after collision on North Road

At around 10am, a Durham Constabulary officer was responding to an emergency with his blue lights and siren on when he collided with a white Suzuki driven by an elderly lady.

She suffered a head injury in the accident, in which her car struck a bollard and a signpost, and was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the police officer involved in the incident was unharmed.

Police confirmed that an investigation into the incident had been launched.

Following the accident, North Road near Morrisons was temporarily closed in both directions to allow specialist crews to thoroughly investigate the scene. However, the road has since been reopened to normal traffic.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: “A motorist was injured in a collision with a police car in Darlington this morning (Saturday 31 August).”

“At around 10am, an officer from Durham Constabulary was driving along North Road with his blue lights flashing when a collision occurred with a white Suzuki.

“The driver, a woman in her 80s, suffered a head injury and was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital for treatment. The police officer was uninjured.

“North Road was closed in both directions near Morrisons while specialist officers examined the scene, but has now reopened. Investigations are ongoing.

“Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to email Durham Constabulary via [email protected] quoting incident reference number 118 of 31 August.”
