Semi-final dream shattered! The Munich Ravens fail dramatically against the Paris Musketeers

The Munich Ravens’ playoff adventure in the ELF is over after just one round. In a spectacular game on equal terms, the Parisian Musketeers finally got the upper hand.

Premiere for the Paris Musketeers! Marc Mattioli’s team beat the Munich Ravens 40:37 in the wild card round and is now in the semifinals of the European League of Football for the first time. There the French team met the Vienna Vikings, who were the only team to remain undefeated in the main round.

In the first quarter, Austin Mitchell gave the home team the lead before Sixten Dragan equalized and Robert Werner made it 7:6 from Munich’s perspective. In the second period, the guests were not intimidated by an opposing touchdown, this time by Zach Edwards, and responded in the person of Etuale Lui.

Ravens and Musketeers exchange blows

However, a few seconds before the halftime whistle, wide receiver Mitchell once again came into focus. The 25-year-old struck back with a kickoff return touchdown – the French went into the locker room with a 19:14 lead.

Immediately after halftime, head coach Kendral Ellison’s selection made its presence felt again: Tomiwa Oyewo shone with a spectacular 76-yard rush into the end zone. The joy did not last long, however, as Musketeers running back Chris Voumbo then managed a spin-move touchdown.

Paris remains ice cold in the final phase

In the duel between the playoff newcomers, Munich always stayed close and even took the lead again. First Jon Cole stormed into the end zone on the punt return, then Robert Werner scored the field goal to make it 30:27.

The pattern continued in the last quarter. Thanks to Malik Stanley, the score was 37:34 shortly before the end, but the Musketeers held their nerve in the final phase. The last blow from the Parisians to make the final score 40:37 was a real hit and sealed the Ravens’ exit. It was the tenth and final change of lead in a dramatic playoff opener.

Stuttgart awaits in the second ELF semi-final

Who will have to compete against the Stuttgart Surge in the other duel for a place in the final will be revealed on Sunday. Then the Rhein Fire will host the Madrid Bravos (from 3 p.m. live on ProSieben MAXX, Joyn, ran.de and in the ran app).

Last season, the Ravens narrowly missed out on a playoff appearance. With seven wins to their name, they only managed to finish eighth. One year later, they managed to jump to sixth place.
