Dynamo Dresden defeated VfB Stuttgart II effortlessly 2-0

Dynamo Dresden is back on the road to success. One week after the 0-2 defeat in the Saxony derby against Aue, the SGD today defeated VfB Stuttgart II 2-0 (1-0). Christoph Daferner (15th minute) scored the early lead, Tony Menzel (72nd) added another in the middle of the second half. Stuttgart’s Samuele Di Benedetto was shown a yellow-red card (55th minute). 27,205 spectators watched the party in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium.

The home team began to hold back and left the action to the guests. The second team of the German vice-champions showed a real enthusiasm for the game. However, Vinko Sapina was able to take advantage of a loss of the ball in midfield. The new signing served Daferner perfectly. The striker showed nerves and lobbed the ball over VfB goalkeeper Dennis Seimen. Afterwards, the SGD played like a top team, hardly allowing the Swabians to develop. Both Niklas Hauptmann (19th) and Sapina (31st) could have extended the lead. At half-time, however, the superior hosts were narrowly ahead 1-0.

After repeated fouls, Stuttgart’s Di Benedetto was sent off in the 55th minute. Dresden needed until the 72nd minute to take advantage of their numerical superiority. The outstanding Sapina found Menzel with a cross, and the Dresden native headed in. The home win moved the Saxons up to third place in the table.
