Showdown in the Olympic Park in Munich. The top teams BDS Academy and Vitality.Bee duelled there on Friday evening. In a nerve-racking match, BDS ultimately had the upper hand and secured the title with a dominant 3:1 victory. The three German talents Janik “JNX” Bartels, Steven “Reeker” Chen and Tim “Keduii” Willers were the secret stars and shone with precise teamwork and strategic skill. ‘Keduii’ even received the MVP title as ADC.

BDS starts with a bang – Vitality strikes back

After a short technical break, BDS Academy started with an impressive draft. With an aggressive setup around midlaner ‘Reeker’ on Yone and ADC ‘Keduii’ on Jhin, BDS was able to dominate the game. In particular, the fight for the first two dragons, good macro play and a decisive Baron secured them a clear victory in the first match. The arena, which was initially rather sparsely filled, turned into a cauldron of seething emotions over time.

Because in the second encounter, things looked completely different. Vitality.Bee countered with a brilliant plan and mercilessly exploited every weakness of BDS. The Tristana pick in the mid lane turned out to be a flop for ‘Reeker’; Vitality managed to equalize with superior moves and a perfectly executed dragon strategy.

BDS turned the tide and forced match point

In the third match, both teams used tried and tested strategies, but a mistake by Vitality in the Herald fight gave BDS the decisive advantage in the game. A dominant Gnar from ‘JNX’ and ‘Keduiis’ top performance on Kai’Sa allowed BDS to slowly but surely build their advantage and round out the game with a Hextech Dragon Soul. In a last desperate fight, Vitality.Bee tried to fight back – unsuccessfully.

BDS went into the fourth match, which was supposed to be a showdown, with a 2-1 lead. An early double kill for “Reeker” on Yone put BDS in the lead. They showed solidarity – despite fierce resistance from Vitality and attempts to put the team in an uncomfortable position by rotating quickly on the map. A brave Baronsteal from Team Vitality paid dearly and brought the deserved victory for BDS.

‘Reeker’: “It feels great”

After the triumph, midlaner ‘Reeker’ in particular was visibly moved when speaking to kicker eSport: “I’m proud that we won this trophy.” With the title in their luggage, the BDS Academy continued an impressive series of successes that made them one of the top teams in Europe in 2024. Coach Danusch “Arvindir” Fischer is just overwhelmed by the performance: “We had such a crazy year, played a lot of games and lost in the Spring Split, so we’re happy to have now proven what we can do.”

The success of BDS Academy shows that the German talents also have a say in the highest European semi-professional scene. With this victory, they have definitely recommended themselves for a future in the European professional league LEC. The year was very successful for German teams in the semi-professional scene: Eintracht Spandau recently won the Spring Split of the EMEA Masters. Schalke 04 and the Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition, who recently competed against each other in the Primeleague final, made it into the top 16, while NNO Prime narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs of the EMEA Masters.
