Football – Successful start to the league: Frankfurt defeats newly promoted Jena – Sport

Frankfurt (dpa/lhe) – The Eintracht Frankfurt women’s soccer team started the new Bundesliga season with a win. Coach Niko Arnautis’ team beat newly promoted Carl Zeiss Jena 2-0 (0-0) on Saturday. In front of 2,549 spectators, Geraldine Reuteler (57th minute) and Elisa Senß (81st) scored the goals. Luca Birkholz (62nd) missed the best chance to equalize.

Even though Frankfurt only won by a narrow margin, it was still mostly a very one-sided game. Frankfurt was clearly superior to the guests. However, the third-placed team from the previous season, which still has to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League, missed too many scoring opportunities. Laura Freigang and her teammates were particularly thwarted by the strong Jena goalkeeper Jasmin Janning, who only made an unfortunate mistake when Senß scored late on and missed the ball.
