Accompanied by protests from right-wing extremist groups, hundreds of people celebrated the first Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Zeitz. According to the organizers, around 600 people came to the parade through the city. The Halle police say they have numerous officers on site.

At the first CSD in the Burgenland district last year in Weißenfels, there were several incidents caused by right-wing extremists. The right-wing extremist party “The Third Way” had announced protests against the CSD.

The CSD commemorates the uprisings of the queer community on Christopher Street in New York City (USA) in 1969 and stands for the visibility and equality of queer people. Other names for the CSD demonstrations, which are now held annually in many places, are “Pride Parade” or “Gay Pride”.
