Roger Federer outshines current tennis top earners

Just as on the court, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are also competing in terms of income. Last year, the former was just ahead in terms of salary. This is shown by the list of the ten best tennis stars recently published by the US magazine “Forbes”.

Alcaraz is in the lead with the equivalent of 35.6 million Swiss francs. Djokovic followed in second place with 31.5 million Swiss francs. The first woman is Coco Gauff (22.8 million Swiss francs) in third place.

One fact is that all ten names on the list earn more money from sponsorship contracts than from their sporting performances. Alcaraz earns almost 27 million Swiss francs – thanks in part to his advertising partners BMW, Rolex and Nike.

This year’s top-paid employees are far from the record earnings of 2020. Back then, the ten highest earners took in a total of 272 million francs. Four years later, this figure is “only” 206 million francs.

Roger Federer played a major role in this change. At the end of his career, the Swiss earned around 75 million francs annually – more than twice as much as the current top earner Carlos Alcaraz.

Forbes points out that tennis is the only professional sport in which men and women earn almost the same amount. There are four women in the top ten.
