YouTube “à la minute” – iPhoneBlog.de

YouTube “à la minute” – iPhoneBlog.de

I love getting lost on YouTube on a dull Saturday morning, but when I find myself doing this on a Monday morning at the office, I get very annoyed.

The YouTube app on the home screen was (my) mistake (for years). It pushes you into a hole; even if we shorts exclude once.

With Play or Unwatched I have targeted access to my subscribed channels; there is no Trackto start with a recommendation because you are drawn in by a cover image or fall for a clickbait headline.

As soon as you open the website or app to watch it, you are bombarded with “recommended videos” on the left, right, top and bottom – from the homepage, sidebar to the auto-play feature directly after a video (“Auto-Play next video” must be deactivated!)

If you’ve turned off YouTube watch history and don’t have a significant previous watch history, starting today we’ll turn off features that rely on watch history to provide video recommendations – like your YouTube home feed. That means starting today your home feed may look very different: you may see the search bar and left-hand Guide menu, but no feed of recommended videos. That lets you search more easily, browse subscribed channels, and explore topic tabs instead.

Recommendations are not available even if you turn off your “Watch History” (My Google Activity), but then you also lose the Entertainment for those so-called “uneventful Saturday mornings” when you want to lose yourself in a topic on the video platform.
