DHL customers are being warned about new fraud attempts. Read here which messages can be dangerous.

Fraudulent phishing emails are currently circulating again. The message in question is sent with the subject “Urgent DHL notification: Action required for your package”. A package is supposedly on its way to you. It is to be delivered today. A payment of 2.99 euros is required “to process customs formalities” for “smooth delivery”. The payment also avoids delays and the delivery is made “directly” to your mailbox (via “verbraucherzentrale.de”).

This is clearly phishing. This can be recognized by the lack of a salutation and the dubious sender address. If you also position your mouse pointer on the attached button without clicking it, a preview of the link will appear in the status bar of the mail client or webmailer. There you can see that it is not the link to the official DHL website. You should therefore move this scam attempt to the spam folder without answering it in order to protect your sensitive data.

How to recognize phishing emails and protect yourself

Phishing emails are a common method used by fraudsters to obtain useful data. This type of email can often look deceptively real and often contains an urgent call to action. Typical characteristics include a lack of personal greeting, spelling mistakes or unusual sender addresses. Also watch out for links that do not lead to the company’s official website.

To protect yourself, you should never reply to suspicious emails or click on links. Always check the authenticity of the email, check the sender and the URL of the link carefully. Also use up-to-date anti-virus software and keep your operating system and applications up to date. If you do come across a phishing email, change your passwords immediately and inform your bank.
