Six excursion tips to beautiful huts to stop off at.

The cattle drive starts in Bavaria on Saturday. The weekend is perfect for a nice trip to the mountains. We present six hikes ranging from easy to fairly strenuous, where you can also stop off at the huts.

Piesenhausener Hochalm

The pretty high alpine pasture at an altitude of 1360 metres can be reached in various ways – for example, you can first take the gondola up to the mountain station of the Hochplattenbahn. Here, however, we choose the longer route and start at the valley car park of the railway in Marquartstein (Schloßstraße 46) and puff our way to the mountain station. From there, we follow a forest path that leads through the mountain forest and past a few alpine pastures to the Hochplattenalm. After a while, the path splits. We stay on path 66, which leads to our destination. With a bit of luck, you can see as far as the Großglockner, the innkeepers promise.
Culinary rewards await at the top, such as soft cheese marinated in oil with herbs and mountain cheese from our own production. Cows are kept on the mountain pasture. Open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (until the end of October).
Distance from the valley station of the Hochplattenbahn in Marquartstein: 12.3 km
Altitude: 817
Ascent: 5 hours

The Firstalmen

The Lower or the Upper Firstalm? Both are best – they are not far apart and you can stop off at both. At the Upper Sperre, for example, you can get spare ribs with BBQ sauce (16.90 euros) or a Kaiserschmarrn with apple and plum compote for 14.90 euros (photo above). You can get there comfortably from the Spitzingsattel, where there are parking spaces and a bus also runs from Schliersee, among other places. Those who are more athletic can walk from Fischhausen-Neuhaus station (departs from Munich main station) along the mountain side to the Bodenschneidhaus and then continue along the “Bodenschneid-Firstalmen” summer path. After the stop, return via the Freudenreichalm. Be careful: this route requires a good level of fitness.
Distance from Spitzingsattel to Obere Firstalm: 2.5 km
Altitude: 246
Ascent: approx. 1 hour
Distance from Fischhausen/Neuhaus train station: 13 km
Altitude: 640
Ascent: approx. 4.5 hours

The Albert Link Hut

A year-round favorite, which is only closed once this year: from mid-November to December 25th. Because it is only 1053 meters above sea level, you can take the Valepper Almen circular trail from the Spitzingsattel (also accessible by public bus). First, you walk a few steps down to the Spitzingsee. After the small bridge, the excursion begins, which is very well signposted and also leads via the Blecksteinhaus. As always, start early, it can get crowded at the lake and in the hut.
The hut itself offers home-baked and cooked specialties from bread to cakes and roasts. The Kaiserschmarrn is legendary. Right: Innkeeper Uwe Gruber with some of his breads. Particularly tasty: children up to 13 years can have breakfast for ten euros, and it is even cheaper for younger children.
Distance: 6 km
Altitude: 130
Ascent: approx. 1.5 hours

Steinling Alm

If I can handle my Wampn, then I’ll go to the Kampenwand? Don’t worry: The Steinling Alm at 1450 meters is just at the foot of the famous mountain in Chiemgau. Psst: You can also get on the Kampenwand cable car in Aschau. Spectacular views are guaranteed!
We start at the Aigen hiking car park (Sat nav: 83229 Hintergschwendt) and walk uphill on the paved forest path; the Steinling Alm is signposted. The last stretch of the path is a climb, surefootedness and good footwear are a must. At the Alm (closed on Mondays, otherwise 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays until 11 p.m.) snacks tempt you, from browned meat loaf with homemade potato salad and fried egg to Kaspressknödl with salad, sauerkraut, parmesan and fried onions.
Distance: 6.3 km
Altitude: 625
Ascent: approx. 2.5 hours

Lenggrieser Hut

This XL stop is located at an altitude of 1338 meters in the foothills of the Alps west of the Seekarkreuz and is open all year round. There are many paths leading there, for example over the Grasleitensteig from the Lenggries-Hohenburg car park. First you go to Mühlbach to the Grasleitensteig and then further. Or you can take the path from Hohenburg Castle along the Hirschbach until you reach the Sulzersteig after about half an hour (about two hours, 6 km). Either way: At the top, host Florian Durach, a trained butcher and cook, welcomes you with Bavarian delicacies including a changing daily menu. It is open daily until the end of October, and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays from November to May.

Distance from the Lenggries-Hohenburg car park via the Grasleitensteig: approx. 5 km
Altitude: 650
Ascent: approx. 2 hours

Halsalm

The original hut at an altitude of 1210 meters in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden is a listed building. The Halsalm does not offer large meals, but instead offers homemade snacks such as cheese sandwiches and fresh milk.
We recommend a varied circular hike. Start at the car park at the Klausbachhaus, then walk 500 metres along the Hirschbichlstrasse before a wider alpine path leads towards Halsgrube. To the Böslsteig and the Reiteralm (be careful: the path is a bit more challenging) and under the Hohen Gerstfeld to the destination. At the snack area at the Almkreuz, a wonderful view of the Hintersee beckons. Back to the starting point via the slightly more challenging mountain path at the Antonigraben. PS: There are public toilets at the Hintersee information point.
Distance: 6.3 km
Altitude: 440
Ascent: approx. 3 hours
